Bandwidth
Considerations
Bandwidth
and data transit has now become a consideration. Bandwidth is calculated
on data going IN and OUT of the servers.
Price
Changes and currency fluctuations
Pricing

The usual
disclaimer is "prices may change without notice".

Your
feedback
At
all times we want to know how we can improve our service to you
and ensure that all things are running smoothly. We also want to
know what you think of our pricing and that we remain competitive.
So don't hesitate to let us know what you think. Email marketing
with for any of your comments.
Site
Size
This
is basically the physical amount of data that you can store on the
server hard disks. As you can see this varies with the plan you purchase.
Setup
Charges
These
charges are ONCE only. If, at the end of the contractual period
you decide to renew for a further 12 months the site will just continue
seamlessly - there will be no setup charges. If, on the other hand
you decide to terminate hosting and then at a later date recontract
- then setup charges will be reapplied.
ftp
access
This
is basic ftp (file transfer protocol) access with programs like
cuetftp (for windows) OT fetch and anarchie for MacOS - it allows
you access to move files (such as your web files) onto your website,
as well as delete, make directories - or simply move files to and
from your website so as to use any unused storage to backup and
retrieve any important files and documents.
It
also eanbles programs like Dreamweaver to automatically synchronize
your local site with your web site.
shell
access
This
means you can use a telnet client to log into your website. This has
far more control and capability over your virtual internet space and
is used by more experienced people.
There
will be restrictions on what is available. E.g. no bots will be allowed
(if you don't know what a bot is - then don't worry).
More
information will follow.
Email
addresses
This
allows you to have email addresses like sales@yourdomain.com, enquires@yourdomain.com.au,
marketing@yourdomain.com.sg etc. These will be forwarded to the email
addresses you nominate or you can have all (the whole domain) forwarded
to just one email address. This is called email aliasing or email
forwarding. One of the most usual email aliases is to have webmaster@yourdomin.com
forwarded onto the person who does your website for you.
Your
web developer or consultant can explain this all to you.
Domains
This
is the number of ACTIVE domains you have under the plans. The first
three plans only allow one active domain - this does not mean you
cannot register additional domains and have them pointing to the
active domain or subdirectories fo the main domain.
See Domain
Pointing below.
Additional
Emails
This
refers to additional email addresses required for your domain - e.g.
anotheraddress@yourdomain.com above the number shown in the plan.
The price is shown is a setup/yearly fee. It is a flat fee regardless
of when it is setup.
Domain
Pointing
This
refers to having more than one domain registered but pointing to the
one website being hosted by us. E.g. you might be hosting a site called
fruit.com with us but you have also registered the domains cherry.com,
banana.com, pineapple.com and pear.com. You want these extra domains
all pointing to www.fruit.com. To have all these domains pointing
to www.fruit.com will cost a total of $120.
Smart
thinking - using the plans wisely
If you
look at the hosting plans you will notice that you can make extra
savings if you require more than one active domain.
Example
1
Although
you may only be interested in the Minimal, Basic or Intermediate
plan it may be better for you to consider the Standard plan. Why?
Well
for one - you can have 2 extra active domains - you may wish to
have a family domain for your family or as a personal website
and you may be involved in a community group that you can donate
a site to.
Plus
giving you more email addresses and extra hard disk space if required.
All
for very little extra cost.
Example
2
For
example, you may require 5 websites with different domain names
because they are all for different reasons. Each website may only
require less than 5Mb space and you may only need 3 email addresses
per website.
If
you were to purchase 5 basic sites it would cost $1,075 for a
year. You would have 25Mb of webspace - and each website would
be limited to a maximum of 5Mb and subject to pricing of the next
plan if you were to increase the size of it.
A
far more sensible approach would be to puchase the Professional
Plan - this gives you 5 domains (i.e. 5 active sites), up to 200Mb
of webspace and would only cost you $900 - which not only is a
cost saving of $175, but gives you an additional 175Mb of webspace!
You
could also have additional domains pointing to subdirectories
within that domain (the domain woudl show up in the URL of a browser
too. However, bear in mind that you would have increased traffic
with more domains.
So choose
wisely and you will not only save money but make other gains as well.
Administrative
changes to your site
Our rates
are low - amongst the lowest you will find outside the USA for this
kind of service. It's like paying train travel prices for Lear jet
transit.
We know
you are human - we are too. There will be cases when you forget or
misplace your password. There will be times when you are dissatisfied
with your ISP and you change - consequently part of the admin setup
has to be changed as well as changing the email forwarding. This takes
time - not just in the actual time to make the changes but the the
administration of them as well.
We will
make reasonable changes at no extra charge initially. But as our customers
increase we are not going to be very happy if we have to do administrative
changes that are not our responsibility. Start multiplying that time
out and you will see why.
Your
password is your responsibility. It really is up to you that you remember
it and keep it in a safe place. The same goes when you change physical
address - there are many charges incurred when you have things changed
over - this is a comparison to when you change your ISP.
After
this has been said - we can only see how the wind blows. If you
take care - so will we - of you. White House studies has revealed
that it takes 7 times more energy, time and resources to catch new
customers than it takes to keep existing ones. So if we can keep
you happy and retain your goodwill - we will have a good working
relationship for a long time.
We will
give you plenty of warning of any changes to our policy.
Backing
up your site
Any data,
files, etc. you have on your website is your responsibility. We have
taken all the precautions possible to keep the servers secure. But
there is nothing in the world that is impregnable. There is an old
saying "no matter how secure you make something - if someone
really wants to get in they will". We won't be held responsbile
if data is deleted. Keep a backup of what you have on your site.
Computers
are machines. Machines DO break down. Expect it. Prepare yourself
for it. Recently one of our people involved in another network witnessed
where both hard disks on a server went at the same time. The active
hard disk AND the backup hard disk. The chances of something like
that happening are infinitismal & yet it did. Murphy does it
again. Fortunately between both hard disks - most of the data was
retrieved.
We
will be instigating a daily backup of the servers. This will mean
a possible downtime of 1 minute per day. If a hardware failure does
occur - we will restore from our backup and notify you when this
was done - in case you made changes from the time of backup to the
failure.
A good
policy is to have 2 copies burnt on CD by your web developer. That
usually means 3 backup copies - the 2 CDs and the backup your web
developer has made for him or her self.
So keep
your site backed up.
